goose, electric or synthetic

i am stuck in a contradiction, insulated by my own hypocricy...

today i made a vain attempt to balance reason with social responsibility and an innate desire to do right by my 'green footprint'.

in an age of electrical crisis and heightened global awareness i fought animal rights activism with a bid to save the environment and i cant deduce who won.

its freezing down here at the edge of civilisation. driven by a fear of robbing the national grid of its already sparce supply of energy or a creature of all its warmth in the worst of months i allowed a sales assistant to assure me that no animal was harmed during the manufacture of my purchase and that the product was gathered in summer resulting in the fluffy being lying as toasty as i am right now.

i could have gone for a synthetic version. i could have chosen the alternate not as warm unnatural byproduct of some factory out in the back end of china but i abated the voices in my subconscious to believe that this would place me as a contributing cog in the manufacture of harmful cfc emissions and possible violent infringements of human rights and certain labour relations that many citizens of this planet are not granted the protection of.

either path today was a hard one. the belief that the little goose, running free range, was painlessly plucked in the summer and lies warm as i in the winter and that the product is proudly manufactured from all material and persons in a free constitutional democracy lulls me into a false sense of security that i put the right foot forward...

objectively speaking

there are two sides, b and c, they have been at war with each other for ages. the reasons have changed like the climates on the playing field but the constant is that they are at war with each other.

b doesnt like c and vis versa. b kills, rapes, maims, captures c's people and c likewise does the same intermittently using b's children to kill, maim, etc...

d walks in and takes a look around. he does not belong to side b or c, he is d, an independent, there out of his own needs and desires to further himself in the land of d. the conflict of b and c is not important to him. he is there to fulfill his own needs and this is not his fight. is d a bad man, an unconscionable being, heartless, or is d simply an innocent, a bystander, looking beyond the war to opportunity and supplying his world's demand?

can b or c blame d for being there? their land has what his needs and neither of them are capitalising on its full potential. he is a willing buyer and they, willing sellers. why is he to blame for their conflict, why is it his duty to fix their problems, why should he get involved?

when r b or c going to look around and ask what are we doing to each other rather than why is d here?

al gore was wrong?

congratulations to most of the commentators. you have demonstrated an inept lack of attention to detail and thorough misunderstanding of the inner workings of the global warming theory. it is not about looking forward to what is going to happen through a pseudo glance into a scientists crystal ball but rather a look backwards to the changes that are evidenced in the snow, chartered weather patterns and studies of ice shelves etc.

much like those in the middle ages who laughed at those who said 'i am jumping in this boat made of wood and will not fall of the end of the earth' (in fact these voyagers would stumble upon continents such as america), or those who looked into the sky and said 'look! there are patterns up there in the stars' etc so too are you illustrating your ignorance with comments such as global warming is a conspiracy, lets swim down madison avenue it can't be that bad, whats the big deal, humans are too dumb to figure out the problem...

you may wish too note that this year (though not in isolation as the pattern has been chartered for a while now) europe has experienced the hottest winter ever, snow has yet to fall in parts of the world that should by now be covered in the fluffy white powder, a big chunk of the ice shelf in greenland broke off, the southern hemisphere is reporting rain showers in the hight of their usually flawless sun filled summer days and the list goes on...

you stay in your little enclave of ignorance and one day when your children ask what it is like to go outside you can sit them down and give them a slide show. al gore was wrong, wrong to think that evidence, science or facts would be able to enter the debating arena of a country fueled by bushisms*.

they r on to something

the little guys who find time amusing themselves with test tubes, atoms and molecules may be on to something...
i woke up this morning: beautiful, bright, blue sky and thunder. it is november. it is not thunder season.
went for a walk into town to try and get a kettle to replace the one that blew up trying to make the morning cupa and it was sweltering. november heat wave, this is sort of expected.
once back from town a torrential downpour whilst the blistering heat persisted...
if i lived in bangkok then maybe this would be ok but my climate zone is far more desert... something is up!
